4 new pages

Click here to read 4 new pages of WBK!

That's the end of the flashbacks for now - next week there will be freakshow again... For us, it's been almost a year since the girls argued and Dores spoke backwards and all of that other craziness. For the girls? A couple of hours. ^__^

Oh, and let us know if you find that something is wrong or missing from the site - the half of Friberg/Thorelli that isn't me accidentally deleted a whole bunch of files and had to reupload a lot... er. Something might have gone wrong in the process. Thanks.

Click here to read 4 new pages!

There would have been more pages this week, but we took the liberty to prioritize the lovely weather and the company of some other comic artists (the adorable Styggelse and awesome Karrey to be precise - check them out!). Hopefully you'll forgive us. ;)

Oh, and for those who are new - don't forget about our Facebook page. :)

5 new pages

Five new pages are up, 358-362! Click here to read them.

Monday, June 15, 2009

1) Four new pages of What Birds Know are up! Click here to read them.

2) We'd like to get a better idea of who's reading our comic, if possible. :) Why don't you introduce yourself in the comments section? You don't have to write a lot if you don't want to - just age, location and other comics (online and/or printed) that you enjoy will do. :) You don't need to have your own blog to comment! Just drop a few lines if you feel like it. We're curious!

3) Forgot to post this last week or if it was the week before: when little Elia and her mother are having tea with the fancy ladies, Elia is seen playing with a poodle. This is actually an homage (okay, "homage"... totally not the right word but...) to a panel in the Selma Lagerlöf comic, where the main character acts as a vet for a poor sick poodle. Fun fact of the day!

Click here to see a comparison!

It also amused Emelie that she got to name a Photoshop layer "Fluffpudel" twice in a lifetime. ^__^

WBK update + print!

Click here for 5 new pages, 349-353! Yay for crossing the 350 line! :D (Ian: "What is it with women and tea?? Isn't it obvious that I'm a coffee person?")

As you may notice, the first page of this update is the last page of the scene where we left off last week. Since we didn't manage to update with 5 pages last week we've gotten a little out of sync with the scenes vs the updates. And this week it's the same thing - there's supposed to be one more page of the camp fire scene, but we didn't manage to finish it on time so it will be up next week instead. :P Hopefully this will correct itself eventually. Not that it really matters, but I guess it's practical to read a whole scene at once.

Oh, and the Selma comic has been published now! It can be bought directly from us for 90 SEK + shipping within the country. (For some reason we doubt anyone outside Sweden will be interested, but if you happen to be... contact us on fribergthorelli at gmail dot com for details! :))

339-344

Pages 339-344 are now up, and man, page 344 has one of the creepiest pictures I've ever drawn. Anyone want to snuggle with that guy, say "I"! *shiver*

333-338 updated

6 new pages of What Birds Know are up! Click here to read them. Enjoy mr Hofflam, because this is the last you'll see of him.

Oh, and we forgot to mention it last time - we're now on Facebook too, and - if we've understood how it works, which is highly dubious - you could join that group and get a message every time we update. Ah, the wonders of technology. ^__^

On another note, we got the test printout of the Selma album in our hands this Friday. Now just for some final touches and then... we're official dead-tree comickers! Yay.

It's May now...

...and as promised, we're BACK!

Our commission has now been finished (final product will be available in mid-May, probably) and we can finally get back to What Birds Know. Again, we're sorry that we've kept you waiting, but from now on (at least until the next distraction comes our way... *cough*) we hope we'll be able to update regularly again. Yay! :D

Here you go, five new pages. Cleavage is included.

Since it's been a while since the last update...

Previously on WBK: The girls got into an argument, Dores' feelings were hurt and we found out about her childhood and how she'd always been unfairly compared to her brother. After the fight the girls made up again... at least for a while. Ian and his two buddies went to the tavern so that Ian could get his prize for winning the bet earlier, and there Ian got an offer he couldn't refuse, but it all became very awkward when the lady he tried to buy for the night turned out to be Elia's mother. Then we met three little girls who had the same nightmare. Outside their window was the old castle in a non-ruin state. Huh.

Selma

Just thought I'd pop in to show you some pictures from the Selma project to give you an idea of what it will be like. It will be out in Sweden in May, but it's possible that it will be translated into English in the future because that's happened with a few of the other comics Kulturpoolen has produced, so we're crossing our fingers for that. :)

Here's what will be the cover for the comic:

Selma Lagerlöf (1858-1940) is one of Sweden's most famous writers. She was the first female writer to win the Nobel Prize in Literature (1909), and is most widely known for her children's book Nils Holgerssons underbara resa genom Sverige (The Wonderful Adventures of Nils).

In this comic album we follow a 49-year old Selma as she tells her niece and nephew a story about a sick, hunchbacked girl named Meli. The girl finds the will to live when she realizes she's a natural when it comes to healing injured animals.

Book Three

Hello everyone.

We're sorry that we've seemed to have dropped off the face of the planet! We never meant for it to take this long between updates. O_o We have not given up on What Birds Know, and we still have every intention of finishing it, so rest assured: the comic has just been on hiatus, and although an update comes with this post, sadly the comic will continue to be on hiatus for a while longer.

The situation is this: We're struggling to promote ourselves as professional comic artists here in Sweden, both by trying to get What Birds Know published (in Sweden, to begin with), and by making a name of ourselves by taking on commissions, participating in contests etc. This has taken up a lot of our time, and although it will be beneficial to us in the long run, WBK has suffered for it these last months.

Right now we're working on a 40-page comic about Swedish writer and Nobel prize laureate Selma Lagerlöf, commissioned by Kulturpoolen. It's going to be published, so that's great for us, but it's a lot of hard work. We try to squeeze in WBK on our schedule whenever we can, but it's very tight, and since we don't think WBK would benefit from updating with only one page at a time, we decided not to update at all until we have more completed pages.

We're sorry we haven't made an announcement about this sooner. We're very stressed out, and that's about the only excuse we have. We hope you can forgive us, and that you will find the rest of the comic worth the wait. :)

However, both of the times we have put WBK on a long hold, it has been at the end of a "volume" (if the comic had been in printed form). Just see it as the wait before the next volume comes out, of for that matter, the wait between seasons of your favorite TV show... ;P (Sooner or later, the volumes will also be reflected in the comic archive. This update marks the beginning of what will be volume 3. All in all, we aim for four volumes.)

Please have patience and bear with us. We will start updating WBK regularly again in May or sooner. Hope to see you then! :)

Love,
Emelie & Mattias

...

...with that said:

OMGWTFLOLBBQ!! 11 new pages (the beginning of volume 3) are up!

And 6 new pages of the new beginning!
The time of miracles, apparently, has not yet passed. Enjoy!
